BE-Alert alerts population in emergency situations

Would you like to know more about BE-Alert, the new platform that will be used by the Crisis Centre of the Belgian Federal Public Service Home Affairs as a fast alert system for members of the public/citizens when an emergency situation arises? Then you must attend the presentation by Paul Allegaert of Nextel: ‘BE-Alert - all authorities now dispose of a ‘one step ahead’ communication for members of the public’ on 5 October at 2 PM and on 6 October at 1 PM in the Safety and Security Academy in the ‘Messi’ room.

After a test phase of two years in which 33 municipalities and the county governors took part, the Crisis Centre has recently assigned the realisation of BE-Alert to Nextel. With the solution developed by Nextel, members of the public/citizens can be alerted in four ways in the event of an emergency: by means of a voice call, text messages, social media and sirens. BE-Alert will be managed by the federal level, but it will also be available for the local authorities.

Sneak preview of the Airbus and Proximus stand at the ASTRID User Days

TETRA for smartphones
"The Airbus Tactilon Agnet app brings group communications to your smartphone by enabling smartphone users who only need TETRA on a sporadic basis to enjoy all of the well-known functionalities without having to carry two devices with them" explained Jacques Brancart of Airbus. "You can, of course, continue to use your smartphone on commercial mobile networks, or, better still, via ASTRID's Blue Light Mobile, with a plan that enables you to enjoy the best high-speed data service of all Belgian telecoms operators. Basically, the Airbus Tactilon Agnet app combines the best of both worlds, right there in your smartphone.”

Observation vehicle on display

The 'cream of the crop' is an apt description of the observation vehicle of the Rotterdam police. This vehicle will be on display on the turf of Stayen during the ASTRID User Days.

The high-tech observation vehicle is used by the football unit of the Rotterdam police. No less than seven cameras are mounted on the vehicle: two remote controlled cameras with a zoom lens, four CCTV cameras for views around the vehicle and a mobile camera with a digital link.

The vandal-proof cameras provide a crystal-clear image in almost all light and weather conditions and are also able to provide sharp zoom images over long distances. The control room can also view the images thanks to the live streaming feature via the 3G/4G network and a satellite uplink.
